Learn@UW Executive meeting

LMS task force student survey

Findings of interest and possible recommendations based on findings.

Findings 1:

"students strongly expressed an expectation that faculty use the LMS more often, more consistently, and more effectively."

Students want the LMS used for all of their courses, timely posting of grades, timely responses of faculty through LMS, course materials and student work available after end date of course.

Therefore, I recommend the following best practices to be share by the LTC:

1.) Use D2L
2.) Post all grades in D2L
3.) Provide qualitative feedback to students using D2L
4.) Manage students expectations about when an instructor will provide feedback and using what methods
5.) Keep course site active when the course officially ends

Findings 2:

Google Docs or collaborative docs highest "I would do" response followed by connecting with others with similar interests/academics/etc

A UWS push for D2L to integrate Google Docs is appropriate.  The UWM LTC may want to discuss promoting the use of Google Docs in classes.

Findings 3:

Students were also asked what features they would like to use with their mobile devices.  The responses indicated they would mainly like the ability to:
·         Check grades (75.3%),
·         View course content (63.5%),
·         View course announcements (62.8%).

Therefore, I recommend a D2L basics that includes grades, content, and announcements.

UWM -- should we be asking developers at UWM to design LTI integration pieces for add-ons that we need (e.g., comments import).
